I am a “Mac fanatic!” I believe that anyone who sells a PC should be put in prison for “defrauding the customer.” I just don’t understand why anyone would buy a PC!

Mac Hints & Tips began while I was the editor of the San Diego Macintosh User Group’s newsletter in 1992. SDMUG was part of a “newsletter exchange program” with other user groups, and I would collect tips from each of them to be used as filler. When not enough original articles were submitted to fill our pages, I would use Hints & Tips to make up the difference. The column quickly became the favorite part of the newsletter.

In 1993 Michael Davis joined me as the new Art Director, we renamed the newsletter Macintouch, and with a volunteer staff of nearly 20, we produced a 52-page magazine every month — one of the finest user group newsletters in the world — and won 4 national awards for design and content.

When the Board of Directors of SDMUG decided to eliminate the newsletter, I took the Hints & Tips column on-line, offering a PDF each month to Mac users worldwide.

In an effort to increase the readership, I have again teamed up with Michael Davis — who has since become a super-talented and very successful web designer — to make the entire database of tips collected over the years available to the Macintosh community. He has initiated the RSS feeds allowing readers to be notified daily of new tips, and created a more “search-engine-friendly” website, hopefully allowing us to be found by many more Mac users.

My “day job” is that of Graphic Designer. My company’s name is Desktop Publishing Center. I create brochures, newsletters, advertising, and other materials for a host of clients. You can see examples of my work at www.dtpcenter.com.

Besides graphic design, I also work as a U.S. Coast Guard-licensed Captain, teaching Beginning Sailing and Coastal Cruising through Harbor Sailboats, as well as teaching private lessons to boat owners. I also conduct private and corporate charters on a variety of vessels, both power and sail, from 22-feet to 90-feet long. I drove one of the “press photographers” speed boats during the America’s Cup races in San Diego, and have cruised the Caribbean from St. Thomas (in the Virgin Islands) to Venezuela, and from San Diego to Hawaii to Tahiti, as well as many boat deliveries to and from Mexico.

For 22 years, Michael has worn way too much black and drank boatloads of coffee. He has swanned around ad agencies, corporate art departments and now runs Yellowfish. The only thing more impressive than his coffee intake is his client list. A damned fine group of Fortune 500’s and ultra-cool small businesses.

Originally from San Diego, CA., Michael, his wife Hannah, and their 3 demon offspring now live in Charlottesville, VA. He now wears less black and has learned to tolerate hippies.
