One way to make an application open with your own custom “defaults” is to create a blank document set up “your way” as stationery under System 7. Some programs have Startup Folders which can do the same thing. Illustrator and FreeHand are two of these. Read how in their respective manuals.

If you are creating slides with PageMaker, FreeHand, QuarkXPress, Illustrator, Canvas, etc., use a page size of 10.5 x 7 inches. That will give you the proper aspect ratio for a 35mm slide.

This is an old tip, but worth remembering. If you need to copy something from a PostScript application (like Illustrator or FreeHand) into a program that can’t directly import PostScript material — hold down the Option key while you choose Copy from the Edit menu.

To get a magnifying glass in FreeHand 3.1, hold down the Command key and Spacebar. Your current tool will switch to a magnifying glass tool. Add Option to reduce the image size.
